Make Your Own Lavender Latte with Essential Oils

Iced Lavender Latte

If you’ve enjoyed a Lavender Latte from a Coffee Shop you KNOW how good it is! The base for this is lavender syrup. (see recipe). Make your own lavender latte at home with either lavender flowers or essential oils.

A friend who also uses essential oils challenged me to make a recipe using doTERRA Lavender Essential Oil! I’ve used essential oils over 10 years. It is a part of my healthy lifestyle.

I recommend doTERRA as a trusted source that provides not just “PURE” Essential Oils, but MORE Tested for quality and purity than any other essential oil in the market today.

The Process

Never having made a lavender syrup, I needed to start there making a traditional lavender flower simple syrup. Once I felt that it tasted the same as what I could get at the coffee shop, I began to dive deeper.

Simple Syrups are made with equal amounts of water and sugar (or honey). Try this easy recipe (Below).

I wanted to see if I could make the same thing with Coconut Sugar and Xylitol using lavender buds.

Then started substituting with sugars and doTERRA Lavender Essential Oils. One of the challenges when using essential oils in ANY recipe is they are 70-80 times more powerful. Both aromatically and taste, so you really do need to start with a “toothpick”! (especially if you are going to use PURE, Certified Grade Essential Oils).

This was a bit like going to a Wine Tasting! If you’ve ever done that, you know after a few different wines, things tend to get a bit muddled! Your sense of smell and taste really isn’t as effective in detecting odors.

Lavender Simple Syrup Issues

What you might find difficult with making simple syrups, is there is a fine line between dissolving the sugar and suddenly making the syrup something that resembles honey…Much too thick to use or store easily.

Coffee Shop Syrup Recipe

Social Media to the rescue! #203fcoffee. Seriously, I totally need to give a “shout out” to 203°F Coffee in Kirkland, Washington. (I’m quite certain they have NO IDEA that I found them on IG and was able to benefit from their syrup recipe). You can watch one of their reels sharing the method I used.

They use lavender syrup they purchase. What I gleaned from them, was HOW to make the combo recipe that would store easily in my refrigerator, not using a stove!! If you are in or near this shop, do me a favor and go say “HI”!

There’s more to tell about this journey, but I’m sure you are ready for the recipe.

Lavender Latte Recipe w/ Lavender Essential Oil

Enjoy this recipe and note that the recommended drops of lavender essential oil are based on your personal preference. I suggest making the Syrup, add a few drops, taste and adjust.

Iced Lavender Latte

  • Fill large glass with ice
  • Pour 1-2 TBSP of Lavender Simple Syrup over ice
  • Pour 8 ounces of strong coffee over ice
  • Using your choice of milk, top with 1-2 ounces and ENJOY!

Think about this….you can also use the same syrup recipe to make a cinnamon, peppermint or even ginger recipe with essential oils! More later! Until then…
